A New Testament Church

The Raymore Church of Christ is a New Testament church. We follow the pattern of New Testament Christianity as is revealed in the Bible.

We are not affiliated with any denomination. We are an autonomous, self-governing local church (Acts 14:23; Philippians 1:1). Our members contribute to a common church treasury so we may share in a common work for the Lord (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). *If you visit our assembly, you will not be solicited for any contribution.

We do not follow the creeds of men. Our only standard and guide is the Bible. We want to speak as the oracles of God (1 Peter 4:11). The Bible is our supreme authority for all matters of belief, practice and worship.

We do not have an earthly headquarters. The headquarters is the place where the head, or leader is located. The head of the church is the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:22-23) and He resides on the throne in heaven (Acts 2:30-33). Our headquarters is in heaven, we strive to obey heaven’s commands. We are not interested in an earthly headquarters.

We do not identify ourselves by denominational names or titles. We only want to call ourselves Christians (Acts 11:26). Identifying ourselves by someone else’s name takes glory and honor away from the Lord. We only want to call ourselves Christians, just as people did in the New Testament. Our desire is to follow Jesus Christ.

Why do we call ourselves the “church of Christ?” It is rather simple. We are a local church that submits to the headship and authority of Jesus Christ. The church belongs to Him; it is “of Christ.” Jesus promised to build His church (Matthew 16:18). He accomplished this through His death on the cross (Acts 20:28). He is now reigning in heaven, as the head of the church (Ephesians 1:22-23). The name “church of Christ” is not a proper noun, such as a denominational title. It is a descriptive term used to describe our congregation as a church that submits to the will of Christ. He is our Chief Shepherd and Overseer (1 Peter 2:25; 5:4).

Jesus built His church and we want to be a part of it. We also want you to become a part of His church! We invite you to contact us or visit our assemblies to learn more of God’s word.
